Job Description

As a Payroll Manager, you'll join the Finance team where you'll:

  • Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process for employees in Canada and the United States
  • Partner with HR and Finance teams on compensation, benefits, and workforce planning
  • Administer employee benefits programs including employee enrollment, changes, and terminations

The Payroll Manager will report to the Manager of Finance and work closely with HR and Finance to ensure the sound operation of payroll and benefits.

  • Salary: $80,000 - $95,000 CAD

What You'll Do

Payroll

  • Oversee and manage the end-to-end payroll process for employees in Canada and the United States.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local tax and labor laws.
  • Maintain and reconcile payroll accounts, preparing reports for finance and HR.
  • Implement process improvements, automation, and controls to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Partner with HR and Finance teams on compensation, benefits, and workforce planning.
  • Manage relationships with tax agencies, auditors, and external payroll service providers.
  • Stay current with changes in payroll legislation in both countries.

Benefits

  • Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, vision, retirement, disability, wellness).
  • Manage vendor relationships with benefit providers and brokers.
  • Handle enrollment, changes, and terminations in benefits systems.
  • Support open enrollment cycles and ensure compliance with benefits laws (e.g., CRA, IRS, ERISA, ACA).
  • Communicate benefits information clearly to employees and serve as point-of-contact for inquiries.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years payroll management experience, with direct exposure to Canadian and U.S. payroll laws.
  • Knowledge of tax treaties, cross-border payroll compliance, and remittances.
  • Certification strongly preferred: Canadian Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP); U.S. certifications (e.g., FPC, CPP) are an asset.
  • Proficiency with payroll and ERP systems (ideally Sage Intacct and Paymate/Harmony).
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical mindset, and leadership abilities.
  • A team player who faces challenges with grit and perseverance.
